He became like a human

St Stephen, martyr

«The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had : He always had the nature of God, but he did not think that by force he should try to remain equal with God. Instead of this, of his own free will he gave up all he had, and took the nature of a servant. He became like a human being and appeared in human likeness. He was humble and walked the path of obedience all the way to death – his death on the cross. » (Phil 2).

« The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had », that is to say the attitude of His Heart, sometimes soft and humble, and at the same time fiery like a furnace. This « anihilation » of which st Paul speaks in the following sentence, that you can detect at the very top of the Cross, you can also detect it at the manger in Bethlehem, in the little babe wrapped in swaddling clothes. By allowing the spear of the soldier to cup open his Heart, this anihilation encounters a new step. He loved us up to the very end. (John 13:1) , up to the point of giving us access to his Heart, up to the point of anihilating himself in the Bread of Life.

Prayer :

Heart of Jesus, obedient up until death, have mercy on us.
