“The Lord says , “the time is coming when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the old covenant that I made with their ancestors… although I was like a Master to them, they did not keep that covenant ! But the new covenant that I will make with the people of Israel will be this : I will put my Law within them and write it in their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people.” (Jeremiah 31)
The theme of the new Covenant is approached by several great prophecies in Israel. This new Covenant will be no longer engraved like the first on tablets of stone, given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai, but it will be engraved in our hearts directly by the Holy Spirit. The Heart of Jesus is the most accomplished heart of the children of Israel, in whom the new Law of Love is fully engraved ; and his open Heart becomes the permanent source of this new and eternal covenant, the grace we receive at each Eucharist.
